This website is the documentation of the corresponding MFA Thesis with the same name, Garden of the Mind, by Jessica Wolinski. A selection of images and videos can be found as seen in the RIT City Art Space Gallery in Rochester, NY, during early May 2021, and in nature.
The discoveries made within the work and the ideas surrounding it, became all encompassing in how each lead back to some specific interest from child to adulthood. From wanting to make clothes, become an illustrator, compose music, to studying glass engineering, and an admiration for teapots all along the way. I see the artwork as an homage to my family, specifically the women, who have sacrificed much and encouraged, supported me, to this point. On the back of each tile (as can be seen in Alternative Views), there is a note with the title and my signature, “‘Rhododendron dreams…’ In loving memory of Dorothy Wolinski”. She passed away in August 2019 and the grouping of tiles is my visual elegy to her.
All artwork made was done in the approach to a group MFA thesis exhibit in May 2021.
